Before the Spring

In most of the northern hemisphere, we have entered that time of year before the Spring. In this phase of the cycle, the fairies/devas/elementals have the work of preparing living things for the transition.

"Life is beautiful and dangerous. Beware! Enjoy!
I'm called Dreamdeer, due to some pretty strong dreams about Deer.
I currently live in the Sonora Desert with my wonderful husband, and have done dreamwork more or less all my life. I indulge in writing and art at the least excuse.
How do I live the magic? It's kind of unavoidable for someone with narcolepsy, a condition that blurs the line between sleeping and waking and is apt to plunge me into a dream at any moment.
In my maternal tribe, dreams are a legitimate variety of reality, part of a larger reality that seems to correspond most closely to the European concept of Faerie.
I have come to accept that I must deal with whatever reality I happen to land in at the moment, prepared to shift gears in an instant.
Someday I'd like a tee-shirt saying - Narcolepsy: It's not just a disease, it's an adventure!"

It's hard not to think of global warming in the summer, especially here in the desert. Birds pant with their beaks open, javalinas flop down in the shade and browse on whatever they can reach without getting up, even the heat-loving lizards cling to the screen door to feel some breeze on their bellies. And what does it mean for the Fair Folk?

Now that the weather finally begins to cool, walks in the desert become feasible again. Mind you, a walk through the desert does not resemble an English country stroll. It entails an element of danger-ranging from annoying skin irritation to death--and this does wonders for the soul.

I must begin with a disclaimer. Though of Yaqui heritage, I am not full-blooded, and the white side of the family raised me.

Summer becomes the most daunting time in the desert, the time when heat can kill, when every creature in the desert finds different stratagems to survive.
